Liam and I met just less than eight years ago outside the chemistry building, waiting for a lecture when we were in our first year of university at WITS. We became friends, better friends and eventually started dating. Eight years after meeting and six years after we first started dating we got married.

We got engaged in March 2013 and married in December. Those nine months were some of the best of our lives. It really is a special time.

The most stressful moment, was an hour before the wedding was suppose to start, my uncle, who also was meant to drop off my flower girls,  called to say that my grandfather forgot his Diabetic treatment at home in Benoni and that they would only arrive 10 mins after the start of the wedding. Obviously I did not want to walk down the isle without my family or my flower girls there, so I only ended up walking into the church at 20 mins after I was supposed to. The funny thing is that there were more than thirty doctors at my wedding and we could have all, including myself written a replacement prescription for him.

Our wedding day was just perfect! Exactly what we wanted in every single way and in many ways, even more. We loved having all our friends and family together who were there for us – to celebrate with us. All these people who are so special in one place together doesn’t happen too often. So many things took our breath away. Our beautiful cake, the flowers, the decor and how everybody just looked so happy and excited made our evening. It all just happened so quickly!

Any tips or advice for future brides?

Somebody told me to pretend I did not plan anything – to be a guest at my own wedding. This was the best advice I received. If things do not go to plan, there would not be much we could have done at the last minute anyway.

Do not compromise on things that are super important to you and your groom to please someone else – but be prepared to compromise on the smaller things.

Meet with suppliers to discuss details. Emails do not always get your point across.

On the day – do not forget to eat and drink!

Sometime during the special day – find your groom and just look! Just look at everything and everyone and how all their warmth and happiness and joy is in celebration of the two of you!

And no single pair of shoes is worth more than your comfort!
